Getting to Abaco
The Abaco chain of islands is located approximately 175 miles east of Florida (approx. 1 hour flight) and 100 miles north of Nassau (approx. 35 minute flight). The main airport on Great Abaco Island is Marsh Harbour International Airport, although Treasure Cay Airport is very popular as well for people staying in Treasure Cay or Green Turtle Cay. Major airlines connect the Bahamas with the United States as well as Canada, Europe, Great Britain and the Caribbean. Flights to Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay are available from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Orlando, New Smyrna Beach and Nassau in the Bahamas.
If you are staying on the outer cays of Abaco, you will need to take a ferry to your final destination. The Ferries usually run about every hour or you can charter your own ferry. See the Ferry Schedule page here: Ferry Schedule
If you are booking your flights online, we recommend www.Expedia.com, www.Priceline.com or www.Bing.com - We have found that there are some online companies that do not recognize Abaco as a destination.
Keep in mind that if you are staying in Treasure Cay or Green Turtle Cay it is more practical to fly into the Treasure Cay Airport. A taxi ride from Marsh Harbour to Treasure cay and the Green Turtle Cay Ferry can be about a 45 minute ride and can be quite costly.
